First off, thanks to Dr Jennifer Amerson, Kathy's surgeon, who keeps incredible hours. We got called at 9:43 pm last night with the results and, I believe, can be seen as glass half-full or half-empty: we prefer half-full.
The nodes were clear, the left breast tissue showed no signs of cancer activity. On the right-side, what MRI'd as a 1 cm lesion, on removal, turned out to be 6.5 cm. That's pretty large, especially considering Kathy's size. While the surgeon believes she got clear margins, at its smallest, the margin was only 1 mm. Yes, millimeter. That's not a lot of cushion between the cancer and the rest of the body, so we're being advised to have the area radiated. We are also pursuing a second opinion on the pathology reports.
